San Diego Restaurant Week 2026: What to Know (and Why It Matters)

by Maria Haase

This post is sponsored by San Diego Restaurant Week. All opinions and recommendations are my own.

Want to eat out and do something good? Then make reservations at San Diego Restaurant Week 2026, September 13-20, 2026, and eat your way through San Diego’s restaurant scene.

Restaurant Week means 120+ participating restaurants all over the county, many of them favorites mentioned in our neighborhood restaurant guides:

Best restaurants in San Diego
Best restaurants in Downtown San Diego
Best restaurants in La Jolla
Best restaurants in North Park
Best restaurants in Coronado

Greg and I love trying out new restaurants, and Restaurant Week is one of our favorite ways to try new places. The specialty menus and great prices give us an excuse to go out and try something new. The San Diego Restaurant Week website makes it super easy to find new places to try. You can sort by neighborhood, cuisine, price range, and more.

I also love that they are partnering with Restaurants Care, a local non-profit that supports restaurant workers in San Diego that fall on hard times. Read more about that below.

Win 8 Days of Dining (an $800 Giveaway)

Here’s a fun bonus: San Diego Restaurant Week is giving away 8 Days of Dining — dinner for two at eight participating restaurants, valued at $800. That’s essentially a whole week of Restaurant Week, on them.

  • Prize: eight $100 gift cards, one for each of eight San Diego restaurants
  • How to enter: fill out the quick form (name and email) on the Restaurant Week contest page
  • Limit: one entry per person
  • Deadline: September 7, 2026 at 9:00 AM
  • Winner: drawn at random and notified by email within 48 hours

Note that entry closes September 7 — six days before Restaurant Week even starts — so don’t put it off until you’re looking at menus. It takes about ten seconds. Enter the giveaway here »

How to actually do Restaurant Week

There are a couple of ways to experience Restaurant Week in San Diego. Some people just check if their favorite restaurants offer a deal, others use it as a way to try new places, and some have a fully planned, lunch & dinner Restaurant Week itinerary and reservations for each spot. There is no right or wrong way to do Restaurant Week. Whether you want to dabble and only replace your date night for the week with a new spot, or want to try as many restaurants as possible in one week, you do you. But here are some tips that might be helpful:

  • Make Reservations – especially for weekend dinners. These fill up fast.
  • Keep an eye out for the higher-end places that you have been wanting to try. Their prix fixe menus are often a really good deal.
  • Sorting by neighborhood makes it easy to find spots nearby or explore a new area of San Diego that you are not too familiar with.
  • Lunch menus are often considerably cheaper and offer some of the best value during Restaurant Week.
  • Check the menu. Usually, the participating restaurants offer their signature dishes or “crowd pleasers”. Make sure it is something you like and fits your dietary needs.
  • Recommended: Tip on the “normal” price, not the special, if the service was good. The server has the same amount of work, whether it is Restaurant Week or not.

The part most people don’t know: Restaurants Care

But the best part about Restaurant Week? This year, Restaurant Week has partnered with Restaurants Care, and every participating restaurant is supporting this non-profit with a portion of their sign-up fee. Restaurants Care supports the people who make it all happen. From the chefs to the bussers, servers, and bartenders, these are the backbone of every restaurant. They work hard, so we can have a good time.

We all know that these jobs rarely come with good benefits, health insurance, or sick days. So what happens when a server has a health crisis or an emergency? That is where Restaurants Care steps in. They provide a safety net for all the workers in the restaurant industry.

As Alycia Harshfield, President of the California Restaurant Foundation, puts it, Restaurants Care is “a nonprofit fund dedicated to taking care of the people who take care of us when we dine out.”

Here are two of many examples of how Restaurants Care was able to help out when two local servers faced a difficult time:

Janene, a waitress at a beachside restaurant in San Diego, was plagued by frequent and severe headaches. Doctors discovered a 13mm brain aneurysm, and she was at high risk of a stroke. Janene needed surgery immediately, followed by a long recovery period. She is the primary caregiver to her daughter and also her mother, so her loss of income created severe financial hardship for the whole family. This financial stress was almost as hard on Janene as her illness. She qualified for a Restaurants Care grant that covered some of her daily living expenses, like groceries and child care, and gave Janene a bit of relief during this difficult time to focus on her recovery and get back on her feet.

It was a shock when Estelle, a server in North County, was told that her ovarian cancer had come back a second time. She immediately started chemotherapy and was unable to work during that time to focus on her treatment and recovery. She faced extreme financial hardship during that time, as the bills piled up. Estella received a Restaurants Care grant to cover her rent, which gave her one less thing to worry about during this extremely difficult time.

“…when a restaurant worker is facing a life-changing crisis, we can help make sure financial hardship isn’t one more thing they have to face alone.”

Alycia Harshfield, President, California Restaurant Foundation

Restaurant workers take care of us when we dine out, and this organization is making sure that they are taken care of as well when they are in need. You can support Restaurants Care by dining out during Restaurant Week or donate directly to them. Or as Alycia puts it: “you can eat out and do some good at the same time!”

So what is your plan for San Diego Restaurant Week 2026? Are you ready to make some reservations?
